Local Technology Firm Helps Prepare Next Generation
LANCASTER, PA - GetMyHomesValue.com, a Lancaster-based provider of cost-effective real estate service solutions, announces a new program to give local high school students a first hand introduction to the expanding use of technology in today’s workplace.
Friday, November 10th Hans Weaver, a sophomore at Lancaster Mennonite High School, became the first student to participate in GetMyHomesValue.com’s new “Tech Shadowing” program when he spent the afternoon with IT Director Alex Barger. “It’s exactly how it sounds,” says Lori Lilly, GMHV’s Technology Assistant who spearheaded the program. “A student follows the tech through the afternoon’s work and sees first hand what goes on. We expect and encourage lots of questions because every student’s expectations will be different.”
Barger, who soon will be a new father, has personal motivation for working with students. “My dad taught me about computers and technology when I was very young,” Barger remembers. “And I look at this as a great opportunity to do the same and share my experience with the younger generation and help them. Technology is getting more and more competitive.”
Weaver says he wanted to learn more about the business aspect of technology. “It was fun and I learned a lot,” he said. “I liked being able to see software applications in the workplace.”
Lilly says GMHV would like to bring in students regularly. “The time was right for us to start this program,” she says. “It’s something we’ve been wanting to do, and we feel it’s a great way to support our local high schools. I guess you could say we want to help prepare the next generation of IT experts.”
Since 2003, GetMyHomesValue.com has been a locally owned company serving a national client base of real estate professionals with exclusive real estate leads and personalized service to help grow their business.
